Last week the “Climate Smart Lending Platform team” went on a field visit to Nyeri County, Kenya. In this area, there is a great concentration of smallholder farmers and we were interested in finding out first-hand how access to finance, coupled with climate smart terms & incentives, could improve not only farmers’ productivity but also resilience to climate change. We had insightful discussions with some tea out-growers, coffee cooperative representatives and had a tour of Gathuthi Tea Factory Co. LTD on the north eastern slopes of the Abedere ranges. This was the first step in better understanding the supply chain dynamics and challenges on the ground and hope to make good use of the lesson learnt for the next phase of our project!
